Requirements:

  • Completed Phlebotomy course or equivalent on-the-job experience (OJT) AND

  • Minimum 2 years of phlebotomy experience

  • Compensation: $20.07 - $28.90
  • Retention Bonus: $500 Retention Bonus for eligible new hires

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, 4x10-hour shifts
  • Part-time, 24 hours per week

Shift Differentials Available: $2.00/hr. Weekend- $2.50/hr. Evening - $6.00/hr. Night 

 

This position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens, proper entry into the computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and/or distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area. This includes responsibility for pre and post aspects of analytical testing. This position will also perform specified analytical testing as assigned. This position may perform duties associated with blood donor registration services.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-registration/registration processes, verifying coverage of Advanced Beneficiary Notices, and obtaining authorizations and notifications. Calculates patient liability according to verification of insurance benefits. Accurately and completely documents all information into the patient records system to ensure maximum reimbursement.
  • Acts as a liaison between the patient, billing department, and payor to enhance account receivables performance, resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns, and to maximize service excellence.
  • Communicate with physicians, clinical and hospital staff, nursing and Health Information Management Services to resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns. Works to meet the patients’ needs in financial services.
  • Meets or exceeds productivity standards. Completes daily assignments and maintains accurate production logs and records. Identifies opportunities to improve work processes and practices good work group dynamics.
  • Performs specimen collection and patient preparation, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques as required. May perform assigned patient testing. May perform collections for drug and alcohol screening, following chain of custody protocols. May transport patient specimens and/or patients, per guidelines.
  • Aliquots and labels specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, delivers specimens to the technical area in a timely manner and / or performs initial processing and preparation of samples for transport.
  • Focuses on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Initiates computer generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Completes documents and records legibly and accurately per site protocol. Maintains familiarity with departmental procedures. Uses appropriate documentation to record communications.
  • Communicates with physicians, clinical and hospital staff, nursing and Health Information Management Services to resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns. Acts as a liaison between the patient and lab charge services department to resolve outstanding issues, patient concerns, and maximize service excellence.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment. Maintains clean, safe work environment and makes appropriate reagents/bleach.
  • Performs other technical support functions as determined by the department. Trouble shoots routine problems within their area of responsibility.
  • Assists with inventory management and ordering of supplies. Recognizes and provides input towards opportunities for improvements in work practices, and processes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
  • Must have completed a Phlebotomy course or possess the on-the-job training (OJT) equivalent.
  • 2 years prior experience.
  • BLS certification is required upon hire.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. May be required to possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Additional related education, certifications and/or experience preferred.
  • Previous specimen processing and send out experience preferred.
