Overview

Foundation Health Partners (FHP) is looking for Pharmacy Manager to join the Hospital Pharmacy team! 

 

This position is responsible for leading and overseeing the clinical operations of FMH hospital-based Pharmacy Services. Ensures the functions of the department are consistent with applicable policies and procedures. Develops, implements, and monitors clinical pharmacy services, which support patient care areas of the hospital. Collaborates with the integrated healthcare team to provide quality patient care and serves to facilitate representation of clinical pharmacy services with medical staff and other disciplines. Accountable for on-going evaluation and documentation of all components of pharmaceutical care delivered to patients. Manages department staff, as well as department budget. Leads issue resolution management the electronic information system for medication processing. Promotes and demonstrates effective inter-disciplinary and inter-facility collaboration. Develops standards of work performance, orientation and training programs. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients being served. Adheres to local, state, and federal laws regarding the profession of pharmacy practice.

 

Pay & Benefits:

  • Compensation: $77.11 to $123.37 hourly wage based on experience and education

Responsibilities

 

  1. Provides leadership and work direction to the pharmacy staff. Promotes positive relations and actively contributes to a supportive work environment. Serves as a change agent and role model for core behaviors. Collaborates and communicates effectively with other members of the pharmacy management team. Fosters a team environment within the department and across the system. Actively participates in system and facility based teams and/or projects.
  1. Manages people resources by recruiting, selecting, hiring, orienting, and training qualified candidates. Assures appropriate orientation, training and continued competency of pharmacy staff. Evaluates pharmacy staff performance in an accurate, consistent, and objective manner. Ensures accurate and complete documentation of patient assessment data and clinical interventions. Performs disciplinary actions as needed in a fair, consistent and timely manner.
  1. Oversees drug therapy management process and ensures appropriate cost effective drug therapy through progressive clinical services. Maintains accountability for effective departmental operations within budgetary constraints. Monitors and controls expenses through promotion of rational and cost-effective utilization of medication therapy and inventory control. Provides oversight and assists with the development and implementation of evidence-based medication guidelines/protocols.
  1. Manages and coordinates educational activities that support the advancement of the pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, medical staff and allied professionals where applicable on medication therapies and related topics. Serves as a primary preceptor for pharmacy clerkship students and pharmacy interns. Provides needed education to patients regarding their medication.
  1. Applies the principles of continuous quality improvement in the development of quality improvement activities and policies and procedures with consideration for medication and patient safety. Implements and assures compliance with decisions of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Pharmacy Operations Team, or other facility/system based committee(s). Assists with investigation and resolution of complaints and medication safety issues (e.g. medication errors, adverse drug reactions). Acts as a liaison between pharmacy and other departments and/or vendors to assure functionality of clinical information (e.g. EMR, smart pumps, etc) systems.
  1. Functions as a medication expert on hospital-wide and system multidisciplinary teams. Prepares requested documents for presentation at Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee (e.g. formulary review, drug therapy management protocol, etc).
  1. Participates in staff duties when workload/staffing dictates. Critically evaluates medication therapy and makes recommendations to improve patient medication regimens. Ensures appropriate and cost effective drug therapy. Areas of focus may include but are not limited to evaluating and addressing drug-drug interactions, drug-food interactions, contraindicated medications, inappropriate therapeutic regimens, adverse drug reactions, and medication therapy management (e.g. pharmacokinetics, nutrition). Accurately and completely documents patient assessment data for pharmacist to provider communication, clinical interventions and adverse drug events. 

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Qualifications

Requires current pharmacy licensure in the state of practice, a degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College of Pharmacy. Requires pharmacy licensure in the State of Alaska within 90 days of hire date. Requires a minimum of 5 years progressive experience in pharmaceutical operations, distribution, and/or contracting. Must have at least 1 year of experience with staff management.

Must possess good organizational, problem solving and computer skills. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients and other contacts. Must be able to use reference tools to evaluate patient care and answer questions posed by customers.

Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software and automated dispensing system.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's level degree preferred. Board Certification in appropriate area of specialty preferred. Experience in hospital pharmacy with supervisory experience preferred.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
