Overview

This position teaches professional practice through planning, developing and training nursing and/or allied health students enrolled in a Foundation Health Partners (FHP) sponsored clinical education program(s). Delivers programs that have been identified by FHP Human Resources (HR) as supporting the organization’s “Grow Our Own” workforce planning strategy. The Nursing Clinical Instructor ensures planned and supervised clinical education programs, and identifies needs and provides guidance to students, staff and key leaders.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor clinical activities, application of new nursing skills, theories and knowledge application in classroom and clinical setting.
  • Critically assesses and delivers clinical curriculum, developmental programs and services. Maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Demonstrates proficient clinical, patient safety and evidence-based practice. Actively promotes development of critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, and clinical competency for real life application.
  • Coordinates labs and simulation in partnership with FHP HR, nursing units, and program faculty for an effective implementation of clinical activities.
  • Collaborates with program faculty to provide student remediation in the lab and simulation setting.
  • Leverages technology to meet learning needs and accomplish learning goals.
  • Organizes and presents in a variety of settings using lectures, group discussions, team exercises, hands-on examples, in the form of video or web-based programs. Ensures alignment and appropriateness of materials according to student programs. Documents all training in accordance with program requirements and TJC standards.\
  • Serves as a mentor and uses teaching strategies to foster student learning, success and retention. Provides critique and constructive feedback to students and evaluates student clinical performance.
  • Acts as a role model of clinical practice. Establishes visibility and credibility. Leads and participates on assigned committees and teams. May participate in unit or facility shared leadership.
  • May require off-site travel.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing required.
  • Current RN licensure in state of practice. BLS certification required.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in nursing. Excellent presentation, facilitation and computer technology skills, strong organization and communication skills and the ability to take initiative, solve problems and improve processes.
  • Experience in the clinical area for which they are instructing. Must maintain clinical performance competencies appropriate to the area in which they work as demonstrated through annual validations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of ancillary and support department responsibilities.
  • Professional certification in specialty area preferred. Two (2) or more years in a position with primary responsibility for delivery of learning programs for adult learners.
