Overview

The Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technician is responsible for coordinating the child passenger safety program in accordance with State Highway Safety Grant and Project Agreement. This includes coordinating the day-to-day functions of the program, serving as the primary contact person for the Fairbanks Safe Rider Program, providing education on CPS to parents and caregivers, coordinating CPS check-up events, scheduling appointments for home visits related to CPS and teaching the Certified CPS technician course.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates day-to-day functions of the CPS program. Serves as the primary contact person for the Safe Rider Program, schedules appointments for parent/caregivers for CPS installation help and education. Researches and responds to requests for information.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication strategies with co-workers, and customers. Strives to resolve conflict in a constructive manner. Organizes manpower for child safety seat community events. Maintains CPS hotline on a daily basis.
  • Incorporates critical thinking skills by incorporating data from multiple sources in coordinating CPS checkup events and working with the public in answering CPS related questions.
  • Prepares CPS budget with Staff Education Manager and allocates expenditures throughout the budget year for the program. Keeps records, collects data and produces a quarterly report of activities. Follows through with designated grant activities. Serves on the Statewide CPS Board and coordinate all technician in the FBNSB.
  • The CPST operates within the guidelines and the policies of the Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the CPS program within budget and being responsive to user needs within an acceptable time frame with appropriate materials. Complex or unusual policy decisions are referred to the Education and Media Services Manager. The incumbent writes, revises, and updates procedures.
  • Coordinates the community outreach and education activities. Distributes educational materials and training to local agencies.
  • Integrates new developments in Child passenger safety for the improvement of program services. Keeps abreast of current changes in child passenger safety to ensure new resources and new ideas are worked into the program.

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Foundation Health with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our core and leader behaviors each and every day.

Qualifications

  • Current national certification as a Child Passenger Safety Technician required within 6 months of hire date.
  • Current valid driver's license.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint). Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year CPS experience, including performing CPS events and teaching.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
