Overview

Make your move to Alaska! Experience the midnight sun in the summer, a front-row seat to the northern lights in the winter, and the opportunity to advance your career as you broaden your scope of practice.

Fairbanks Memorial Hospital seeks an inpatient psychiatrist to join our highly experienced team.

The Opportunity:

Join our team at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital’s inpatient psychiatric unit, where you’ll be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary group dedicated to patient-centered care. While currently an adult-only unit, we are excited to expand in the coming year to include four adolescent rooms, the first of their kind in Interior Alaska. We are seeking a board-certified child psychiatrist who is comfortable working with both adults and adolescents to help shape this growing program.

Our department values meaningful patient interactions, recognizing that building trust leads to better outcomes. Weekly case staffing sessions with community partners allow us to collaborate and leverage local resources for comprehensive patient support. This is a unique opportunity to help develop a much-needed inpatient program for adolescents, bringing an essential service to our community for the first time.

  • Compensation: $390k base salary, $37,500 estimated on-call compensation, $65k sign-on bonus.
  • Schedule: 225 8/hr shifts per year with an estimated 75 call shifts.
  • Patients: 20-bed unit, average of 12 patients per day, adult only with plans in place to expand to include a 4-bed adolescent unit by January 2026.
  • Team: The department is well-supported by three full-time psychiatric nurse practitioners, one full time psychiatrist, a healthy pyschiatry per-diem bench, case managers, and social workers.
