Overview

This position provides basic to intermediate operator and mechanical maintenance services. Operates, repairs, and maintains stationary equipment including boilers, generators, refrigeration, etc. for the FHP hospital system. Ensures that equipment is operating safely and within established limits. Conducts monitoring and failure analysis of meters, gauges and controls to determine the need for repair or replacement of parts. Performs preventative maintenance and documents completed procedures.

Shift Differentials Available: $2.00/hr. Weekend- $2.50/hr. Evening

 

Initial Training Schedule will be Monday-Friday, 7:00AM - 3:00PM

 

Responsibilities

  1. Assists in the operation and maintenance of power plant and facility utilities equipment and systems. Maintains, monitors, and repairs steam/hot water boilers, centrifugal/reciprocating chillers, and cooling towers. Maintains all pumped systems including: chilled water, condensate water, domestic hot and cold water, heating hot water, condensate, sewage ejector, medical air, vacuum, mechanical air, and fuel oil. Performs and maintains plant water treatment programs. Assists in the operating of the emergency generator system, fire monitoring and control systems. Participates in energy management/conservation programs.
  1. Responds to assigned general maintenance and emergency calls as required. General maintenance calls include (but are not limited to) clearing clogged drains, repairing leaks and drips, bed/crib/wheelchair delivery, jumpstarting / tire inflation of vehicles, pressurized medical gas delivery, etc. Maintains a detailed log on all required facility equipment, records all shift activity. Assists as a member of the Fire Response Team. May assist in providing security backup.
  1. Utilizes various computer systems, such as IP based sensors and control boxes, for power plant and facilities monitoring. Runs reports and analyzes data to identify any abnormalities. Performs electronic rounds and updates work orders within the electronic work order system.
  1. Responsible for work permitting and Infection Control Risk Assessments (ICRA). Ensures work permit and general regulations for staff and contractors are enforced.
  1. Cleans assigned work area and maintains tools, storage and assigned areas in an orderly manner; and assists in other areas of Facilities services as required.
  1. Drives company vehicles to transport equipment and contract maintenance personnel as assigned. 

Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Qualifications

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge, plus vocational or technical training.  Must possess a valid driver’s license and eligibility for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.

 

Requires 1 year of relevant plant and mechanical maintenance experience. Must possess basic to intermediate skills in the field of plant operations. Must have working knowledge of utility and infrastructure systems and components common to the healthcare environment. Must be able to exercise independent decision making and judgment in the performance of all duties. Requires the ability to work safely and effectively with infrastructure and utility equipment.

 

May require Universal Refrigerant handling certification, depending on the state. Must be proficient in reading and understanding related and required maintenance and construction documents. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.

 

Must have flexible scheduling availability.  Must have the ability to work up to 10 hour shifts if required.  May require call. 

 

Must be able to work effectively with plant computer software programs.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of applicable regulatory codes and State and local building codes.

 

Previous construction experience is preferred.

 

Previous customer service experience is preferred.

 

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
